Biodiversity Informatics Horizons 2013, Rome, Italy

In recent years the move towards the Internet of Things has been led by the hacker and maker communities. Cheap and reliable electronic sensors around the world are streaming data to the internet in real time, but the biodiversity community has been slow to embrace these new technologies. I present here a new system developed jointly with the University of York that can identify grasshoppers automatically in the field using their songs, and discuss some of the problems and solutions we have encountered and developed.

Talk on the conference website.
